Outreach/Social Action Ministry Team
The Outreach/Social Action team at Federated Church works to find ways to meet the needs of our community as well as the needs of people around the world. With Barb Wagner as Chairperson, the Outreach/Social Action Team has created the following goals for 2007.
1. Present current Social Action issues (such as immigration reform, terrorism, health care, Church and Society issues, Homeless/Low Income Housing) to the congregation through information brunches, coordinating special sermons and/or organizing special lectures.
2. To promote and encourage participation in short term mission projects of the church.
3. To continue our ongoing programs:
a. Advocating for children through the support of South Beaver and Christensen schools by providing supplies and materials as well as hosting an annual teacher’s luncheon in the spring.
b. Supporting the reading program at the Family Food Center.
c. Coordinating the Peace Offering on World Communion Sunday in October and the One Great Hour of Sharing each Palm Sunday.
d. Supporting the Peaks worship service every 5th Sunday by providing a devotional, a song leader, and piano player.
e. Supporting Heifer Project International.
f. Supporting New Start by requesting used magazines from the congregation for use by participants.
g. Coordinating the Angel Tree program every Christmas. This program provides presents for children with one or more incarcerated parents with their cooperation.
h. Provides a health nurse to measure blood pressures on the first and third Wednesdays and the third Sunday of each month.
i. Working with other Federated Community Church teams to support various events in the church.
j. Working to come up with solutions to new problems in the community as they come to our attention.
Our meetings are on the second Monday of each month (except August and December) at 4 pm in room 14. Current members are: Barb Wagner, Deb Gaither, Mike Brown, Carmen Johnson, Brenda Hooser, Joyce Christensen, Kent Christensen.
