Vacation Bible School 2008

Q: When will the Vacation Bible School (VBS) be held?
A: The week of July 28, 2008. The program meets daily from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. There is a closing ceremony presentation that parents are encouraged to attend starting at 11:30 a.m. on the last day of VBS, Friday, August 1, 2008.

Q: Is there an enrollment limit?
A: Yes.  To ensure that each child has plenty of attention and the ability to participate fully, we limit our enrollment to 50 children (5 groups of 10).  Enrollment is on a first-come, first-enrolled basis.

Q: What are the ages that you accept?
A: The program is designed for ages 4 to rising 6th graders. "Rising 6th graders" mean children that will be entering 6th grade in the 2008-2009 school year.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Each child's registration costs $10 if you pre-register by July 18, 2008. Registering after July 18 (and registering "at the door" on July 28) costs $15 per child.  There is a family maximum fee of $25; if you have more than two children to register, the cost for your entire family will be $25.

Q: Where is the church located?
A: Flagstaff Federated Community Church is located at 400 W. Aspen Avenue near downtown Flagstaff. It is the corner of Aspen Avenue and Sitgreaves Street just behind the main Flagstaff Public Library.

Q: How do I register my child for VBS?
A: You can download a registration form here. Fill out the registration form and return it as well as your registration fee to Karen Appleby at the church office. If you pre-register before July 18, we can plan our supplies better and the registration fee costs less. If you miss the July 18 deadline, we would still like you to register with Karen before July 28, to avoid having your child wait in line on the first day of VBS.

Q: If some unexpected conflict occurs and my child is unable to attend VBS, is my registration refundable?
A: Yes. Please notify the church office as soon as you can.

Q: Does my child have to attend all 5 days?
A: We think your child will benefit most (through developing friendships with other kids, understanding the curriculum set-up, etc) by attending all 5 days. We also know that special circumstances arise and missing part of the program may be unavoidable. The registration fee cannot be prorated for time spent at VBS.

Q: What kinds of things will you be teaching my child?
A: The program is divided into separate "stations" that your child will visit each day. They include music, crafts, recreation, science projects, and snacks. The purpose of the week is to reinforce positive living attributes such as respecting others, helping those less fortunate, trusting in God, and being environmently aware. These attributes are often illuminated by stories from the Bible. The purpose of VBS is not to "preach" a particular dogma to the participants.

Q: My child has food allergies. Is there special alternative snacks that can be used?
A: Please notify our staff of your child's food allergies on your registration form and at the child's initial drop-off on Jouy 28, 2008. We will try to have alternative snack options for your child. In extreme allergic cases, we may ask you to provide a suitable snack for your child.

Q: Can my child carry a cell phone during VBS?
A: Cell phones can be carried. But non-emergent use of the cell phone is prohibited. This is to insure that the cell phone does not interfere with your child's enjoyment of the program or become a distraction for other participants. If you need to speak to your child during program hours, please contact the Vacation Bible School Director, Jeff Rockow, at (928) 853-2359, and he will get you in touch with your child.
